Suitable for: Those with who have experience of using DesignBuilder for Dynamic Simulations.
This 1-day online course will give you the knowledge you need to confidently use DesignBuilder’s overheating tools enabling you to complete overheating assessments using dynamic thermal modelling in the DesignBuilder software. This course will equip attendees with up to date information with regards to Building Regulations which has introduced new Approved Document O for Overheating, from June 2022.
Once completed this course will give you access to join the Elmhurst Overheating Competency Scheme once competency has been assessed, where you will receive;
- Industry recognition of competence to undertake Overheating risk assessments.
- Addition to our list of competent Overheating Risk Assessors available on our website.
- Technical support to members on Overheating regulations and carrying out Overheating Risk Assessments.
- Updates on future Building Regulation and technical standard changes in regards to Overheating.
- Introduction to Overheating
- Using DesignBuilder’s TM52 tools
- Using DesignBuilder’s TM59 tools
- Modelling for BB101 overheating risk
- Modelling for BREEAM overheating credits
- Meeting the overheating requirements of anticipated Building Regulations and planning conditions such as the London Plan
You must be competent as using the DesignBuilder software and have ability to use DesignBuilder’s EnergyPlus calculated natural ventilation analysis tools. This experience could either be via previous attendance on the relevant days of DesignBuilder’s simulation training, or relevant experience modelling with DesignBuilder calculated natural ventilation.
If you do not have this experience you will need to complete Design Builder’s Overheating Training with Dynamic Simulation Training

- A competency assessment will be sent for you to complete upon application
- Subject to satisfactory completion of the competency assessment you will be enrolled onto the only overheating competency scheme where you will benefit from additional recognition for your assessments and other scheme benefits.
