Elmhurst’s APEL-approved qualification course provides a fast track training route for those who want to become a fully qualified Air Con Inspector (ACI) to Level 4. This course provides a fantastic opportunity for those currently operating and experienced in the commercial/non-domestic industry to gain expert knowledge in the production of ACI reports for commercial buildings.
An Air Conditioning Inspector is an individual who can assess the condition and energy efficiency of air conditioning systems. They provide professional advice on how to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems following CIBSE TM44.
All air conditioning systems with an effective rated output of more than 12kw must be regularly inspected by an energy assessor. These inspections must be no more than five years apart. The Level 4 Air Conditioning Inspection APEL qualification enables assessors to complete Air Conditioning Inspections and Reports on complex, central air conditioning systems, as well as simple unitary, split and multi-split packaged systems and all variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems.
(Please ensure the APEL application form is completed and returned to us as soon as possible before the training starts – a link to this will be sent once payment has been made)
If candidates meet the APEL requirements, the two day Air Con APEL course provides individuals with all the information needed to meet the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) standards for Air Conditioning Inspectors to Level 4. The training is followed by an assessment of three ACI reports.
The course is 2 days and involves a practical air conditioning inspection and software report writing. Please ensure you bring along all of your equipment.

Upon successful completion of the Air Conditioning Inspector training and a signed off assessments, individuals are classed as qualified. Once qualified you are eligible to join our government approved accreditation scheme free of charge. Unlike other independent training providers, members who go on to join Elmhurst’s NDEA accreditation scheme are fully supported long after the course is finished- we won’t leave you feeling high and dry.
Only individuals who are registered with an accreditation scheme are able to produce legally valid Air Conditioning Inspection Reports. To find out more about accreditation with Elmhurst, click here.
