Energy Efficiency Measures for Older and Traditional Buildings: Level 3 (Online Live)

Course length 2 Days
Suitable for Retrofit Assessors, Retrofit Coordinators, Architects, Surveyors, Building Control Officers, Installers, Builders and Developers.
Qualifications NOCN (National Open College Network) Level 3 Award for Energy Efficiency for Older & Traditional Buildings (QCF)

Elmhurst Energy is working closely with Environment Study Centre who has teamed up with the CITB and specialist building consultancy Edwards Hart to develop this unique 2-day online course that delivers a real qualification in energy efficiency retrofit. It is also the only course of its kind that is delivered all over the UK – England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The Environment Study Centre prides itself in delivering high quality training and since 2016 hundreds achieve the level 3 Award qualification from a range of organisations that have included housing associations, contractors, retrofit installers, sustainability bodies, and consultants. The course takes account of latest research and developments such as PAS 2035.

Upon successful completion of this course participants will be awarded the NOCN (National Open College Network) Level 3 Award for Energy Efficiency for Older & Traditional Buildings (QCF). This is a government approved qualification and has been developed to suit contractors and consultants, as well as clients. This qualification provides individuals with the recognition that they have achieved an independently recognised level of knowledge.

If you are involved in Government or ECO funded retrofit, you may be required to hold the NOCN Level 3 Award for Energy Efficiency for Older & Traditional Buildings (QCF) qualification.

In accordance with clause A2.3 of PAS 2035 Retrofit Assessors are only required to have this level 3 qualification when considering a building at risk grade B or C and the building is protected, as identified on the:

or is of historic interest, or located in a Conservation area or World Heritage site.

Retrofit Coordinator’s require this qualification for their Retrofit Evaluator role.

The three NOCN Level 3 Award units that make up the Level 3 Award are listed below:

  • NOCN code H6MK 69 Older and Traditional Buildings: Age, Nature and Characteristics
  • NOCN unit code H6MM 69 Older and Traditional Buildings: Assessing Options for the Introduction of Energy Efficiency Measures
  • NOCN code H6MN 69 Older and Traditional Buildings: Making Recommendations and Giving Advice on the Introduction of Energy Efficiency Measures.

During the 2 days each participant is expected to undertake three multiple choice tests – these tests will be taken electronically from a laptop/iPad.

This is a two-day course, but it requires 21 hours of learning and therefore each participant will be required to undertake essential pre-course work as advised by the course trainer; this is regardless of pre-course knowledge in the subject. Supplementary information to support learners understanding of the broader issues affecting the energy efficiency and retrofit of pre-1919 traditional buildings is provided prior to the course, in the form of an electronic course handbook.

Training will be delivered by  one of the UK’s leading experts in the retrofit and sustainable refurbishment of traditional and historic buildings,  Prof John Edwards, MA, DipBldgCons,  CEnv, FCIOB, FRICS, IHBC.

Refunds will be made for any cancellations received but these must be in writing at least 14 days prior to the commencement of the event. Cancellations will be subject to a 25% administration charge. Refunds will not be made for cancellations received after this date. It will not be possible to refund exam fees that have already been paid to a third party.

Rescheduling is allowed on two occasions per individual booking (providing the course is available on further occasions, which is not guaranteed).
